Kompanie Vévody burgundského

A reenactment company we've proudly ridden with for five years — recreating the army of Charles the Bold, the last Duke of Burgundy.

Recreating Charles the Bold's Army

Kompanie Vévody burgundského / Compagnie du duc de Bourgogne is an open project for groups and individuals who want to together recreate military and civilian life in Burgundy under the rule of its last great duke, Charles the Bold, in the 1470s.

Adeptus has been part of the Kompanie for five years now and we are proud to be part of a project that brings together people with the same interest in late medieval history, historical fencing, and the most authentic possible recreation of the period.

What We Recreate

Our main goal is the most faithful possible reconstruction of part of the so-called ordonnance companies – the professional army of Charles the Bold, which was among the most advanced military forces of its time.

However, the Burgundian army was not made up only of soldiers. Behind its operations stood an entire society – nobles, townspeople, craftspeople, women, and other people who accompanied the army.

That's why the Kompanie has room for the most diverse historical characters. You can portray a noble knight, a professional foot soldier, an archer, a townsperson, a servant, or another person who could have been part of a Burgundian military camp.

The Burgundian realm was also truly multinational. Our people can therefore portray, for example, Frenchmen, Flemings, Brabantians, Luxembourgers, Italians, or Englishmen who served in Burgundian forces as soldiers or mercenaries.

Who Can Join?

You don't need to have your own group. You don't need to be a knight. And you don't need to have a complete kit ready.

The project welcomes:

  • entire historical fencing and reenactment groups,
  • smaller groups of friends,
  • individuals,
  • both fighters and non-combat participants,
  • people focused on the military and civilian aspects of the project.

What matters most is interest in the period, willingness to work on historically accurate equipment, and readiness to be part of a shared project. You don't have to acquire everything at once. You can develop your equipment and character gradually according to your abilities and experience.

Together at Events

The Kompanie is not just shared equipment reconstruction. We want it to be seen especially in the field.

We participate together in battles, tournaments, camps, and other historical events in the Czech Republic and abroad. On the battlefield, we don't appear as separate unrelated groups, but as part of one larger Burgundian army.

Kompanie Vévody burgundského

We took our first joint steps back in 2016 at the Battle of Libušín and especially at the Battle of Budyně, where we formed our first shared formation against the Swiss pikemen.

Since then, we have appeared together at events such as the Battle of Budyně, Torneamentum, The Feldlager at the Brandenburg, and the Panská bitva.

And we want to continue.

Join the Project

The project is growing gradually and we would like to build a larger and more diverse Burgundian army around the Kompanie.

We are looking for both other groups who want to place their project in a shared historical framework and individuals who are looking for a place where they can participate with their character and equipment.

You can come with your whole company. You can come with a friend. Or you can come completely alone.

We have one shared goal: to create the most striking and historically accurate image of Charles the Bold's Burgundian army.

The Kompanie Today

The Kompanie currently brings together around 30 members and friends of the project. Each brings a slightly different perspective, character, and experience, but that's exactly why a diverse picture of the Burgundian army and society can emerge.

Adeptus is one of the groups that are part of the Kompanie. But the project is also open to other people and groups.
